Liberia mushroom foray

During my recent trip to Liberia, I had the incredible opportunity to venture inland to Bong County, with our ultimate destination being the beautiful Kpatawee Falls. Which was about 4 hours away from my hotel, we had to hire a tour guide to direct us. There was no signal for service and gps directions were useless. The journey was quite a mission, especially since it was the rainy season. The roads were muddy, and the hills were treacherous, making the journey feel unsafe at times. But despite the limited time, the lush natural vegetation along the way was beautiful, and I came across an array of mushrooms, though I couldnโ€™t identify them all on the spot. It was still an amazing experience and really gave me perspective of the potential in a place like Liberia.

Along the way, I also encountered a massive termite mound, hoping to find the infamous termite mushroom. Unfortunately, I didnโ€™t have much luck with that, but it was still an exciting find. The rubber trees that grew in the area were another fascinating feature of the landscape. I had no clue about how abundant they were in Liberia.

Iโ€™m hoping to get these mushrooms DNA sequenced in the future for a more accurate identification. Iโ€™ve posted these mushrooms on iNaturalist, and if anyone is willing to assist with their identification, I would greatly appreciate it. Please feel free to reach out! Thank you!
